Humira Club Support Group
About this Support Group
Hey. When the stupid specialty pharmacy gets its head out of its ass, I'll finally be starting Humira.
I know there's a Remicade Club, so I wanted to start one for Humira.
I guess if those in the Remicade Club are called Remis, we'd be... Humis?

Hi, Santos.
Welcome. It's been awhile since I've posted on this board. I started Humira about a year ago, and it's helping in terms of the bleeding. My doctors (I've moved several times because of my dad's job) were also unsure if it was Crohn's or Colitis, but the last colonoscopy that I had led my current doctor to believe that it is Crohn's.
I'm sure other people will give their advice and stories on Humira as well, but here's some tips. My personal preference is the pen as opposed to the syringe. I take it out and let it sit for 20-30 minutes before I inject it. It has a sharp sting, but doesn't last very long. I'm used to it, since I still need blood work every 2 months since I'm on 6MP.

What are you on? The stomach hurts WAY worse than the legs... lol I did all four of my loading doses in the legs. I've done one in my stomach about 2 years ago... never again. This Thursday is my double loading dose and then I'm home free for one every other week!

Well, here's where Katiesue thinks I'm insane. I think the legs hurt like a mother, and she thinks that's where the shots hurt the least.
I've been on Humi now for 9 weeks. It's getting better for me doing them in the stomach... I've only done the thigh once (never again - you may have good luck though!).
I haven't had any side effects that I've noticed.
Let us know how it all goes

Its really not so bad after the loading doses... once you are past those a shot every other week seems like nothing.
Shot day for me is tomorrow! I also noticed if I freeze the shit outta my leg it hurts less.

Yup yup, very true - freeze the area and take the pen/needle out of the fridge for a bit to warm up a little (at least take the chill off!).

I've been using humira for a while now and like it. I can't handle needles and i'll pass out if I self administer it. So I drop in at grouphealth and they give it to me. I'm usually in and out in 10 minutes. I rotate the backs of my arms, and the fat on the side of my stomach.

Joined the Humi club Monday! My GI's nurse had me come in and she did 2 in my stomach and 1 in each thigh... I thought the thigh hurt ALOT more and I was surprised! I had to do insulin shots when I was pregoo, every day so maybe I just got used to shots?! Have not had any bad side effects yet! LEts hope is stays that way!!!

I've been on Humira for a while now, and I only get it in the back of the arms. I tried the stomach before, and it hurt so bad, that I'm not open minded in getting it anywhere other than the arms.

Hey there guys and gals, I am new to the forum but not new to Crohn's. I was diagnosed in 1986 and have been on all conventional treatments and have tried Remicade, which worked fantastic for about 2 years until i became sensitized to it. I just got out of the hospital last month after i had an enteroenterostomy because i had severe stricutres that caused an obstruction. I tried Humira after remicade but i only took the loading dose and 2 more shots after that (every other week). I didn't think it was working so i quit. I went to the University of Chicago Hospital this past weekend (awesome GIs up there) and they don't think i gave Humira enough time to work. Anyone else have any information on how long it took Humira to work for them?

Hey, Russem!
Happy to have you here
I've been on Humira for... I think 3-ish months now. I was having diarrhea between 4-8x/day, and that has calmed down a lot. It did take about a month and a half or so to begin to take effect.
Hang in there, buddy!

Hi, this is my first post on the site and I have used Humira now for about 6 months and I have had super good results with the drug.
I Fuxxing Hate every other monday when I inject the stuff in my abdomin or leg, i´m totaly going to try the ice cube thing the next time I need to inject
As I am rigthing this, I am in the Hospital going to have surgery. I had a big incident last sunday and colapst at home and found out that I have a obstuction in the small intestans that is about 8cm (3 inch) long and I hafto have surgery.
But in all, I love Humira and the good work it dose for me.
I am so sorry about the spelling, I´m from Iceland and english is just my third language

Humira FTW! I also hate giving myself a shot, but find that letting the dose warm up out of the fridge for 20 minutes or so helps. Hardest part for me is finding a good spot with enough fat to grab onto. Seems like I do the stomach the most. Also after the last few injections, i'm starting to have a nice reddish pink swollen area where I injected myself. Anyone else ever get that?

Yes Jared, I get that too... I have found it goes away when I'm on Prednisone which means its probably just a mild skin reaction. Mine go away in about 4 days.

I was on Humira for 3 months and as MBH knows very well it made me very sick (and now we know why) but I'm still part of the club I think?
I always did it in the belly .. I even put a vid of it up on youtube heh.

Heya, I honestly don't know why I didn't try joining a place like this sooner, had the most terrible time in 2009 with my crohn's nothings working and like really can get sucky at times.
Was put on Humira but the funding didn't come through so I'm only allowed it when I get hospitalized, nhs eh!? lol
Anyway haven't had an injection since September but from time to time I get really bad pains in my legs and joints up to the knee so much I can't move them and regular pain killers aren't any use. Just wondering if anyone else has suffered from this side affect and if there's anything around that might ease the pain??
