Blood Clots?

I was coughing up blood this weekend, which was scary since it's never happened to me before. My doctor told me to go to ER, and I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in lung). It's a small one.

My gastroenterologist said that sometimes active Crohn's inflammation can cause blood clots, or make you at a higher risk for them. I didn't know that at all. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Just trying to figure out if there's a connection since I've been experiencing what feels like a Crohn's flare lately.

I had the same thing, except mine was a massive clot blocking the arteries to both lungs, and I almost died. The doctors in ICU kept saying I'm lucky to be alive. I'm on blood thinners for life. I too was told that Crohnies are more disposed to them for some reason.

I have not had a lung embolism, but I did have one in the leg. Higher risk of clots is definitely associated with IBD.
