Ulcer under base plate

Hi guys anyone any thoughts on this? I've been to see my Stoma nurse and she thinks it was caused by the plastic ends on my Stoma belt, she has me dressing it with aquacell and putting a protective cover over it before putting on my base plate. But it's still quite bloody and getting bigger.

That looks painful.

Did it happen all at once? Do you think it might have been caused by your support belt? Have you done anything new in your ostomy routine or used any new products on your skin recently?

if it starts to ooze white or green stuff you need to see an infectious disease MD. They specialize in hard to heal wounds & will do a culture to make sure no infections are hindering it from closing up.

I had surgery back on 6/20/13 and the wound didn't close. It started to drain green stuff so she cultured it and it came back positive for Staph infection. I was on antibiotics for 2 weeks.

Then after than, it still wasn't closed, so another culture and this time I was positive for 2 infections, Staph and E. coli as it's right near my stoma. And again, I was on antibiotics but the darn thing is spitting out bits and pieces of internal sutures that were suppose to be dissolved within my body. So, I had more blood work done and I'll get the results next week. it's the size of 2 pencil erasers but it needs to close so I don't get anymore infections.

Seeing as it's getting bigger, something's brewing. Get in to see the infection disease MD. Better safe than sorry and he can tell you what's going on with your body.

good luck.

Hey. I've got the same issues. Mine started as an abscess. Surgeon cleaned it up but it's a pain to get healed. Keep in touch with the nurse. Mine is dressed every other day with silver cell and keltostat. Also using the flow vent steroid inhaler on it. Mine will take months to heal.

that's what I started with DJW!! I had an abscess back in May so I went to see the surgeon where he told me that it needed to be drained and cleaned out surgically.

Then it started to heal but in August it stopped closing and I wound up with an infection so I went to see my infection disease MD to rule out MRSA as I've had that before when I had major surgery 2 yrs. ago. That was a pain in my butt to heal.

Anyway, this MD is really good at trying to heal difficult wounds. If he is stumped, he will go above and beyond and research it, run the necessary blood work, AND he uses vitamin therapy as well as dietary therapy. He's very well known in the medical community where I live. This doctor runs on Mountain Dew and gets very little sleep. Great sense of humor too.

Update in the healing of ulcers as you can see it's getting there slowly, only a very weak steroid cream is being used with the dressing changed every 5-7 days.
