Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear this. How old is she? Is she going to be on a transplant list, or have dialysis?

My grandfather has been in kidney failure for years. Even though he's old - nearly 80 now - and despite the fact that he has many other health problems too such as heart problems and diabetes, he still has a good quality of life. His kidneys began to fail probably about 10 years ago, I remember him telling me that they did some sort of test of his kidney function, with (if I'm remembering correctly) 1 being perfect kidney function and 5 being no kidney function whatsoever, and he was at a 3.5 or a 4. Then a few years later he had to undergo major heart surgery, and after that process his kidneys shut down completely. He's been on dialysis for about 4 years now, 3 times a week, and he enjoys his life. He watches DVDs and takes naps when has dialysis. He isn't even in a nursing home, he has his own condo and he loves driving his car. Kidney failure has barely slowed him down.

Sorry if that was a long story, but I just wanted to let you know that it's possible for someone to go through this and still live a happy and good life. I know you're worried about your daughter, that's natural. Please keep us updated as to how she's doing.

Very sad to hear about this - but some encouragement.......remember, kidneys CAN come back - a friend of mine had SEVERE pancreatitis this past year, if he hadn't gotten to the hospital when he did (wife had to DRAG him there!)...he would have been dead.....his kidneys ended up shutting down and he was on dialysis......as of today, his kidneys are BACK...he stopped dialysis and is back to work (police officer).......I also know of a woman I used to transport to dialysis when I worked for an ambulance company...we got a call one day not to bother getting her - she had gone off dialysis because her kidney function had come back!

Hopefully this is just your daughters' body concentrating its' fighting to recovering somewhere else and she bounces back from this.....keeping positive thoughts!
