Newby to this

Hi I was diagnosed with crohns over a year ago I live in Ireland and got admitted to hospital in complete agony I was put on drips as I had a bad fever and infection after a scan they discovered my bowel had burst but luckily it sealed itself.I then got a colonoscopy and was told I had crohns I was put on entracort steroids and pentansa but I kept getting a fever so I was taken off the pentasa which stopped the fever.it's a year on now and it's flared up worse than ever I can't even walk so thinking of going to a&e this morning as it's like a solid fist around my pubic area so wondering has anyone any advice as it would be much appreciated thanks.

Hi Dbren123,

Sorry to hear you've had such a bad time so far. It sounds like you're in a bad way this morning - if I were you I would go to a&e just to be on the safe side.

Hope you get on OK!

If the medications you are on right now have not been taking care of your symptoms, then you really need to either get to a Dr or to a&e. If you wait too long you could end up with a performation again, and may not be so lucky to avoid surgery this time!

Hi there, im just new to this forum too, so dont have any good advice, however, i was wondering if you had a telephone number for NHS direct ? as someone there maybe able to advise what to do. Failing that i would definately take myself up to A&E good luck whatever you decide to do, but dont suffer in silence.

Thanks for all ur advice booked in for a cat scan at two so hopefully I'll be sorted by then thanks again for all your advice much appreciated

Hi dbren
and welcome

Really hope they sort you out, you certainly don't need a perforation again, or a blockage, that pain is excruciating.
With regards to NHS Direct, with the best will in the world, these people aren't IBD specialists, it's best to go straight to A&E. I phoned these last year, their answer - 'I haven't got a clue!'
Let us know how you get on.
lotsa luv

I hope that your cat scan will help them see exactly is wrong. I also hope it is not a blockage. Like Joan said, plus I know from experience that having one is just an indescribable excrutiating pain. Feel well soon, and keep us updated.

hi Dbren & welcome :)

sorry you're suffering right now, but i'm glad to see that you've got a scan booked quickly - hopefully that will give you some answers and reassurance, & treatment to get you feeling much better.

i agree about the NHS direct.. although they've given me excellent advice in the past, the out of hours doctors they send you to aren't good enough in situations like this, in my opinion.. those docs don't have your records, they're not IBD specialists, and they can easily dismiss symptoms as being something else.. (talking from experience of only 4 nights ago here - i have food poisoning right now, and the out of hours doc said i'd caused the pain by chewing gum, and the faintness by getting anxious. didn't even examine my stomach, and i have Crohn's!!).

when it's something that feels serious, and you're really worried about yourself - go to A&E. they'll never say you've wasted their time, and you'll get the right examinations and advice.

Thanks for all ur help got the scan yesterday it looks like it's an abcis so put on heat antibiotics for 2 weeks unbelievably painful but at least it's diagnosed thanks again

good luck with the procedure - i hope you're not too sore afterwards, & that you feel tons better once it's out! update us when you can. x
