Children with undiagnosed stomach issues

Hi I am a mom of two daughters that are suffering with undiagnosed tummy issued. I have recently...this pass week gone through scopes with my 11 year old. We are waiting for biopsy results. She did not have ulcers but inflammation in her stomach that caused some concern. It is sure an uphill battle to get anyone to listen. We have constant flare ups of diarrhea, belly button pain, mouth cankers, fatigue, joint pain and we have to convince docs. that this is not normal. We have a typical family of 5 and "no" family issues. To docs. surprise we are a "functioning" family unit. Sorry a little bitter because they drive me crazy when they look for external reason when there are none. My daughters naturally do well in school and that is now also looked at as a possible reason for having the stomach issues. My poor 11 year old said ... maybe they would prefer me to be getting Cs and Ds. She doesn't stress about her grades she just achieves these her A, B grades because she has those abilities. My daughters are pretty well rounded girls and these tummy issues have caused them stress. STRESS has not caused them this problem. Sorry I am venting but I am so tired of this. I just want my children to be well and enjoying life.

Here is an example. One day we went swimming and my daughter was swimming all of a sudden I saw her rushing out of the pool ... she had to leave because she had an attack and you know the rest.... she is 13. Can you imagine the humiliation to have this happen. Luckily no one noticed. I had to handle it with her. Told the staff and they cleared the pool without making it appear that it was her fault. I had to cover for her so her friends that were with her didn't know. It is hard on all of us. I just wish this was easier to get diagnosed and that docs had more compassion. This passed week we traveled 1400 km to see a specialist and the dr. spent 5 minutes with us. cut us off and said if we were from around there he wouldn't have done the scopes. Happily he authorized the scopes and the other doc that did the scopes and said he saw some inflammation in her stomach. Thanks for listening.

Welcome Tamika! Does your family have any history of IBD's, diagnosed or otherwise? I know you just want answers so something can be done. Is there any blood with the diarrhea? Make sure you keep a record on each of them so when you do get to see a GI, you will have needed details. Good luck!

Here's a big hug for you Tamika. I wanted to welcome you to the forum. I can't speak from experience as I am the one with Crohn's Disease, but my mother went through similar issues that you have. My brother and I both have CD. I have a sister that has been troubled with her digestion off and on for many years also. She tested positive for Crohn's Disease on the blood test, through the Prometheus lab, but her scope procedures were negative. Poor thing is still in limbo with her troubles.

We have wonderful section in our forum that is especially for parents with CD or UC. You will be welcomed, so make yourself at home with us.

Success with fasting

Hi Tamika,

I know of a couple of people who have had success with fasting. Have you tried it as a treatment? I am talking about distilled water only for at least 3 days (sometimes more) and then a day (to come off the fast) of juice only.

It has really helped some.

Hi Tamika and :welcome:

I can understand how difficult and frustrating this must be for you and my heart goes out to you but to be experiencing this with two children at once, yikes!!!.

Also as Dex mentioned, if you don't already keep a diary it might be worth doing so. It's not hard to over look the smaller details when you are dealing with this day in and day out..........................

My daughter went undiagnosed for 18 months and I can't imagine what you must be going through to have your integrity called in to question! I have been there for the shoulder shrugs and the blank looks because the docs didn't know what was wrong and round and round we went.

Please stick around as you will find wonderful support and information and we would love to have you here!

Good luck, welcome aboard and keep us posted!

Take care Mum,

Hi Tamika and welcome!

So sorry you have to watch your daughter suffer like that. And how frustrating it must be to not have the drs not take your daughters' troubles seriously!

Stick with it and stand up for them - sometimes it takes a long time to get a diagnosis. It must also be so difficult to have to travel so far to see a specialist!

I hope you get some answers soon.

- Amy

HI Tamika sorry to hear about daughters.Have they been tested for celiac disease? Here are few ideas you can try if you like ,it sure helped me put my Crohns asleep for many years now.I was diagnosed close to 25yrs ago and with very little help from the medical professionals, I found for me some very important diet issues.Cow's milk is a big problem, try rice milk as they need the calcium.Try and drink nonchlorinated water or filterd out water,it was put in to kill the bugs its probably doing the same in the guts.Use probiotics to help with friendly bacteria.Be very careful of wheat its in everything, even if they are not Celiac.Wheat can change my internal inviroment in a week.Try rice bread etc.Maybe a greens drink to help change the PH to more basic.Try this for a month,it won't hurt thats for sure.Good luck!
