Worried about my daughter

Worried about my daughter-UPDATE

Hello all, my name is Tockii, I am 37 and have three kids. My oldest daughter is 18 and was diagnosed two weeks ago with Crohns. She has had stomach aches on and off for about three years and was always sent home with a diagnosis of gastroenteritis. Well last year it hit a new high and became unbearable, after a few visits to her doc and repeated opinions of "constipation" I finally demanded more be done because I knew something was really wrong.

We are relieved to have an answer but afraid of what is to come. She is currently on Prednisone 10MG 3 times a day, iron and calcium. Her pain is virtually gone, we go back to the doctor tomorrow. We found this forum and look forward to reading and sharing stories, and researching information together. Hopefully she will post soon.

UPDATE-
We went to the GI doc today (wonderful, patient guy by the way) and Olivia will start taking Imuran while weaning off of the Pred. I need to do some more reading here on Imuran also. Anyway, they took blood to test her glucose as she has been having to urinate quite frequently, the doctor thinks this may be because of the Pred. I actually had to ask him to write a note excusing her to use the restroom as needed. there is a new blood test they are offering (free) at the clinic for Crohn's patients that predicts how the disease will affect them later on. She will have that next week.

Welcome, Tockii! I am glad to hear your daughter is feeling better. Luckily, pred works quickly, offering relief within a day or two. But, she can't stay on steriods long term. She will need to take daily maintanence medication to keep the inflammation down. Do as much research on here as possible, especially in the treatment forum, to educate yourself before the next doctor visit. I hope she will be put on medication that will keep her feeling good for many, many years!

That's smart! I always go to my appointments with an outline of questions and things I want to cover. Otherwise, I know I will forget.

When is your next appointment with your daughter? I hope sooner than later!

Welcome Tockii! You might want to keep a notebook of your daughter's symptoms and temperatures and how she reacts to certain foods. I find keeping a food journal as well as a symptom journal not only helps you, but helps the doctors as well!

Hi and welcome Tockii! I am new to this forum as well, but wanted to say hello :)
My daughter is also 18, but was diagnosed about a year a go. (she had symptoms for many years tho)
This is a great place for information and support! I agree with the others...it is best to keep a journal of any symptoms, and just her daily health so you can be armed and ready at your future doctor appointments.

Sorry you had to find yourself here but it is a fab place for support and info! It sure is a relief to get answers isn't it but like you say it sort of opens a Pandora's box of what's to come.

The diary is a great idea and we have one here that you might like to look at..........................

It's great to hear that things have settled for your daughter! Keep us posted on how you are both doing. Good luck with the appointment and welcome aboard!

Take care, :)

Hi Tockii - Welcome!

You have come to the right place for answers! There are a lot of folks on here that are parents of kids with IBD so you are in good company. Lots of nice people and good advice here.

Hope your daughter gets on a good maintenance drug soon, in the meantime, I'm glad that the pred is helping so quickly!

Hi Tockii,
I would just say, you might want to find a new doc - is your doc a GI specialist? That is a must. Your old doc thought your daughter had stomach flu all those times - must be a record.

Welcome to the forum - good luck to your daughter.
