LC Mom & son w/ new Crohns dx

I've been dx w/ LC for the past 13 yrs and have run through most Rx's. Use Pred for flares and maintain w/ 6-MP. I'm used to handling my own symptoms and making life work but still trying to come to terms with my son's diagnosis and how I can best help him.

My 16 yr old son started losing weight last fall and after MANY different Dr's and tests he has been dx with Chron's just this month (July). He doesn't have many of the typical symptoms (bathroom) but I found out that his stomach pain was much worse than he was letting on. Fatigue and extremly low iron was a bit of a mystery because he hid his bleeding from everyone til the stool sample came back. CT showed lots of narrowing and conlonoscopy showed bleeding ulcers, as well as general ulceration, inflamation, a few polyps (removed and okay).

He is starting Prednisone today for a short term fix (2 wks?)while we are waiting for some final blood work to come back. Hopefuly teh Pred will help him regain some engry and weight. (lost 10lbs in the past month). Then dr wants to put him on Imuran and possibly Humeria as well. We will have a consult w/ specialist @ U of W before he start the Humeria to make sure that's the best option for him.

Has anyone here been on the mix of Imuran and Humeria together? As an initial treatment? It seems like such a strong combo to start out with. I know how long his road will be and just want to try to help him as much as I can right now!

Hi maitrichic and :welcome:

I'm so sorry to hear about your son but no doubt he has a wonderful advocate by his side, you Mum.

If you haven't already dropped by them have a a look at the Parent's forum here and the Humira Club here.

You will find others here on that combination and many GI's now start with the "top down" approach, hit it hard and fast to induce remission and prevent further damage being done. When is the consultation with the GI?

I so hope things settle down soon for your boy. Good luck hun and welcome aboard!

Greetings and a most sincere welcome to you! I'm sorry to hear your son has been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease :( Dustykat covered that pretty well, but I wanted to invite you to join our little Lymphocytic Colitis Support club :) It's what I'm diagnosed with as well.

*hugs* to you.

Hi and welcome! I am sorry to hear of your son's diagnosis. Imuran and Humira sounds to be an an aggressive treatment, but there are many forum members on the combo. I know it can sound intimidating to start treatment at this level, but I am sure your son's doctor has a good reason for suggesting this treatment option.

I hope your son feels better soon.
