New on this forum..

Hi everyone. I just joined onto this forum. I am a regular on the Celiac forum and posting about my IBD problems quite a bit lately, so I thought it would make sense to be on both...
Basically my story is that since Jan 28 2006 I got severe stomach pains on my lower right side, that I thought was maybe just Celiac, but then I threw up, and the pains have never faded and during the flareups are bad enough that I can hardly breathe or move. I've made about 20 trips to ER during that time, always without relief. I'm onto my 5th specialist now, the others only keep testing for Celiac so all my biopsies showed nothing. Last summer I bought a book on IBDs and have been following the Crohn's diet (not completely, but most of the time now) for some relief.

I'm hoping being on here can find some useful information and support from others who've gone through the same situation. Be looking for more posts and just look for the red writing :ytongue:

Crohn's and Celiac are related so maybe you are showing indications for both diseases. You certainly could have both diseases at the same time, but I hope you don't. The Celiac diet is a tough one to follow.

Thanks everyone :). Yeah chances are very likely I have both. I definitely have different types of pains when I get glutened and different side effects of it. And I was even tested for refractory sprue, and that was negative so its likely not my Celiac turning on itself. I finally have one specialist convinced that in fact I do have both, just to get the diagnosis is the problem....

I feel like a guiney pig, i tell ya. Since all of these problems started I've had: Ultrasound, small-bowel follow through, colonoscopy, endoscopy, endoscopy, colonoscopy, ultrasound, and small-bowel follow through. And since i'm still awaiting results of the last 2, I don't know if anything showed up there....but if they're both negative, he said he wants to do a colonoscopy because he's determined to find the answer.

Hi Everone,

I am brand new to the forum and quite new to Crohns actually!
My symptoms are quite bad but they dont sound as bad as most peoples on here.
I have bad diorreah most days and stomach pains when I eat certain things.
Litrelly after I eat something I have to run to the toilet. Its really annoying.
I went on Prednisone for around six weeks but really didnt want to be on it so came off. They are wanting to put me on a high does of Azathioprine but I am not keen and you have to have your blood tested every week!!! Can anyone offer advice on this drung? I would far prefer to control it with diet if possibe?

Also after my colonoscopy the doctor said he was 90% certain I had crohns but some of the symptoms I dont have such as no weight loss, I have a great appetite and love my food - I do get terrible pains sometimes and the wind and diorreah is terrible. Also I am always tired and need at least 10 hours a day sleep otherwise I will be really ill. I also catch every bug going so think my immune system is really bad!

Anyway just thought I would drop a line as I am a newbie.

Thanks for all advise, much appreciated!

Welcome both of you. claire1, it's not unusual to not have weight loss if you're still eating regularly obviously. But if it gets bad enough, you will not want to eat much and will lose weight. A lot of people here take Azathioprine (Imuran) and find relief from it. The weekly blood work might be a hassle, but it would be a small price to pay for keeping your intestines healthy.

There's a lot of info about what diets might help in the Food and Diet section here. But what works for one person might not work for another so you just have to find what works for you. And usually, diet only minimizes the effects of Crohn's and doesn't bring permanent relief.

New to Thread

Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with Crohn's disease and have a hard time trying to get it under control. I have abdominal pains almost daily, some are bearable and some are not. I have taken 2 rounds of Entocort and it helped some and I went back to my Gastro and they put me on an acid reducer because I have alot of gas and acid rumbling in my stomach all the time, sometimes it is a little embarassing. Now I have just started taking 2 tablets, 4 times a day, 500mg Pentasa. Has anyone had much luck with this medicine getting their Crohn's under control? I hope this works because I am so tired of hurting. I have been reading alot lately about Crohn's and they say they really do not know what causes it, but I believe mine was caused from having my gallbladder removed in May. I had been having alot of pain in the top part of my stomach and they found out my gallbladder was not functioning properly, so they removed it. I did fine for about 2 months and then in August I started hurting in my abdomen and they took out my appendix thinking that was my problem, but it turned out to be crohn's. I then went through all those lovely test and it was confirmed that was definitely what I had. I am glad I found this site because it is nice to be able to read what others are going through and to know you are not alone.
