How Did You Feel????

How did you feel the first time you heard the words "You have Crohn's Disease/Ulcerative Colitis/IBS/ect."

I was personally relieved to know what was wrong with me....

Done Prednisone, done Entocort for a second time.
10mg. Reactine daily.
Gave up on Imuran, did not work.
Remicade every 6 weeks.

To quote Astra, I was 'gobsmacked.' I don't have classic Crohns symptoms and I was being tested for other things.

I was relieved and neutral. I was relieved because I finally was able to tell people I was NOT making it all up. I was neutral because I didn't know anything about Crohns so I didn't know how to feel about it.

I was both relieved and scared. I had been told by so many doctors that they didn't know what was wrong or that it was all in my head, that I was relieved and validated. After that, I became scared because, at that time, I had never heard of Crohn's Disease so I wasn't sure what it was.

When i was first treated for it, my doctor said, "well your test results came back inconclusive (i freaked out during the colonoscopy). we do not have enough to diagnose you completely for crohns, but there is not enough to rule it out." He handed me a prescription for a bunch of different steroids and sent me home. here i am months later with a flare up... and pretty sure that i have crohns.. i would be happy if i was given a definite diagnosis tho.

Scared, the Doctor said Crohn's on the slip of paper he gave me all I could read was chronic. Didn't know what the hell it was, just new I was going to have it for the rest of my life. However long that would last I had no idea. Still here though, or at least most of me.

I was relieved!! Going into the colonoscopy that finally diagnosed me, they were preparing my mom and I for colon cancer. I was only 15, but was so sick they expected the worst. However, I did go from relieved to what the hell is Crohn's disease, and then i had the denial stage, and then the upset stage, to acceptance. It really was a rollercoaster.
Diagnosed with CD in 1999 at 15.
