Checking credentials of surgeon

checking credentials of surgeon

For those of you who live in the USA, I was wondering how you check
the credentials of a surgeon. What is the name of the state licensing
bureau that you can check to see if there have been any complaints
against a surgeon? However, I realize that just because there are no complaints
filed that doesn't necessarily mean this person is a good surgeon.
What are other resources for finding a good surgeon?

It depends on what state you are in how that information is available. If you know anyone who works in the hospital where this surgeon works, they are a great resource, or if you are friends with any doctors in your area, they might be a good source of information. Of course, you can google the surgeon, but that might not turn up any helpful information.

But to start out, ask your GI doctor who he/she recommends. They would work with some colon & rectal surgeons more than others, and will have experience with who does better work than others.
