I am suffering

Hi. I am a 31 year old south Asian man, who was in good health until early April, when i has bad abdominal cramps for 2 days. I thought this some food poisoning and ignored it. Seven days later i was sick with watery diarrhea, cramps and low grade fever. Fever and watery diarrhea went away after 2 days, but abdominal cramps and intermittent loose stools persisted. I started having bad allergies, cough and sinus issues. I was dehydrated twice and admitted to hospital. Lost 10 lbs. I underwent Endoscopy and colonoscopy 15 days after symptom onset which was non specific/normal. Although my x rays showed a lot gas in small bowel. Later in June I was referred to GI specialist who ran celiac/IBD antibody panel with CRP/ESR. My antibody panel was negative, CRP was normal but ESR was high at 25. He was not impressed and said I have post infectious ibs. But my symptoms worsened. I developed worsening lactose/red meat intolerance. He is now advising capsule endoscopy. Any suggestions/advice or any one in similar situation..But my life has changed and I am really suffering..Thanks for help.

I am really sorry to hear that you are suffering. I know from experience that getting a confirmed diagnosis can be tedious. I was rushed to hospital on numerous occasions when i was a teenager for suspected appendicitus. I wasnt officially diagnosed until i was 18!!
I find a diet of liquid foods helps ie soups, shake,. or foods that are easily digested helps.
best wishes to you.

Today I am having abdominal pain on walking mainly on left side...Little exersion make feel I have to go to bathroom...any one with similar experience

I have some form of IBD too and have not had a helpful diagnosis yet. My colonoscopy results are normal, however, my stool test results show that I do have inflammation in my colon. I think that explains why I have lost a lot of weight in the last few years. I started the Specific Carbohydrate Diet a week ago and I must say it is helping. Have you tried it?

Hello again Khurram! The test is called Comprehensive Stool Analysis. It is the most comprehensive stool test that can be done. I got it done it done at the Great Plains Lab in the US. They send you a test kit and you send them the stool samples by Fedex. I had to do it this way because this test cannot be done here in India. I have been to several GIs, both, in India and abroad and they all either prescribe antibiotics (some have helped temporarily, most have not) or they tell me it's IBS. It is not IBS. After 3 years of looking for the cause, I found out that it is some sort of IBD. The test is really good. They also screen your stool sample for some difficult-to-detect parasites (Your symptoms are similar to that of B.Hominis/D.Fragilis infection too).

I'm sure you're not having milk products/red meat anymore but if you can, try the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I'm pretty sure it will help. I definitely much less bloated than I was a week ago.

Another episode of diarrhea in the morning--consumed i tea spoon of sweet with lactose in it.....Woke in the middle of night with bad cramps and gas---in the morning loos stools and weakness....God help me--am i dying

Please go to the ER if you feel you need to & maybe they can try to hurry the capsule endoscopy.
I will keep you in my prayers.

Hi there and welcome to the community.

The new onset red meat intolerance jumped out at me. Give this a read. It's about meat allergy brought on by a tick bite and the tick is in your area. It's a long shot, but it would certainly be better than Crohn's Disease.

Anyway, welcome to the community, we're here for you!

My journey so far---Pain/Misery

Hi. I am still struggling...Mornings are worse...But now pain is getting sharp and bad. My lactose/fructose intolerance is worse. My ESR is higher now--23. Officially Dx with anemia. Vit B12 is borderline low. I had to visit ER for extremely painful aphthous ulcers in mouth and throat few days ago. So far I had these tests after my first colonoscopy--which ws non-specific

1- Pill endoscopy which as per GI--was normal...
2-CT scan was normal apart from appendicolith..
3-Prometheus Sgi was labelled as not consistent with IBD, although my doctor said my anti-ompc is in equivocal range.
4- Recent stool test showed I have fats+ in stool.
5-Fecal Lactoferrin on 2 occasions was ok 0.5 and 1.6....

My GI is puzzled...He is thinking of repeating scope...Guys any advice....This is klling me....I need input please.

Hello Khurram,
Sorry to hear you have problems right now, situations can be very frustrating at times.
The presence of excess fats in stool could be indicative of celiac disease.
Did your GI expand on this aspect?
Sometimes people can have crohn's and celiac disease together.
You should ask your GI about the stool fats.
You could try a gluten free diet and see if it helps you.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes

I'm sorry to hear you're still struggling :( I hope you don't mind but I merged your new thread with this one so we can more easily follow your progress.

Your symptoms are indeed sounding more like Crohn's. HOWEVER, as you're from a south asian country, you may want to bring up the idea of Behcet's Disease to your doctor and see what they think.

I hope they get things figured out soon :(

I had colonoscopy and biopsy today. Dr. Says all looked ok. He took biopsies. Now a wait for 2 weeks to get results. Still having diarrhea not sure from prep or from my illness. Wish me luck

My biopsy results from colon are ok. But I was surprised he did not biopsy terminal ileum..He said it looks normal. I was not impressed by that. He says it is IBS or malabsorption..still confused. Diarrhea/cramps and little blood in stool. ???and life goes on

1. Did they ever do that capsule endoscopy?

2. IBS does NOT cause blood in the stool. Now, benign things such as hemorrhoids can, but they need to figure out WHY you have blood in your stool and IBS is NOT that.

3. If you have malabsorption, they need to figure out WHY.
