Feels like a knife in the eye

Hi my daughter has crohns and is suffering with headaches approx 1 per week for the last couple of months with an agonising feeling like a knife is sticking in the back of her right eye (not a stabbing pain) lasting anything between a few hours and a few days

Her crohns specialist is very good but unable to find any cause and is pretty sure it is not migraine

She has been fully checked out by the eye clinic at the hospital (and at the opticians while having the pain) nothing found there

She is waiting to see a neurologist in September

She has tried neurofen, paracetamol, co-codamol and tramadol ... nothing touches the pain!!!

Does anyone else have this? or any suggestions on dulling the pain as she says it is the worse pain she has ever felt!!

thanks

Hi and welcome,
Sorry no real advice to help. My three year old is still undiagnosed but does suffer from eye pain. Hers comes with bright sun light. Not anywhere near your child. How old is your daughter? We do have a wonderful parents forum here. Lots of good information on it. I hope someone will be able to help more.

Hi
Thanks for replying, my daughter is 20, she has been suffering for many years but only diagnosed in May this year, now all the problems she has had can be explained by her diagnosis of crohns ;0(

We seem to be at an emergency doctors or a & e dept most weeks as we are still unsure what symptoms to panic or worry about ;0(

I so hate to see her suffering and want to take her pain for her, as I sure all mums do, so I will try to learn as much as I can to help her manage when she needs me
X

To Lexysmum: Hello, I'm 47 years old and I've had crohns for 25 years. In 2010 I started experiencing the very same headache that you described. It is a almost undescribable pain like their is a ice pick in my right eye. This has happened several times over the past two years. I saw a neurologist and was told (after MRI) that I had been having silent migrains for years and that now I was actually feeling them. It sounded weird to me but anyway I was given sumatriptan by this neurologist and if taken at the "onset" of the headache, it can stop it or at least take the edge off enough so that it's tolerable. I hope this info helps. Prayers and hugs to your daughter.

Hi
thank you for replying and for the prayers and hugs ;o) its helpful to know someone else has the same problem, my daughter is now on amitriptyline and although the pain is coming more often they do seem to have taken the edge off for her too and they are shorter, she also is having an MRI scan to rule out an blood clots behind the eye, but the neurologist is pretty sure none will be found

Hi lexysmum,:)
Just to update you on Grace's pain in her eyes.
We went to a pead. eye specialist for Grace. He looked and saw NOTHING concerning as of yet but............
said while he was an intern at Duke University medical center they were doing a study of children with this type of eye pains and said for most of the study group it was early onset of migraines. He said try to figure out her "triggers" NOW before they start to get bad!

I know your girl is 20 but most of my head aches and allergies started when I was 21. No stabbing eye pain for me though.
