Permanent Ileostomy

Hi Everyone,

Last year I had my colon, rectum and anus removed because of the seriousness of my IBS. Initially I was suppose to have my ileostomy for just 6 months so that my colon can rest but as my doctors continue to run more test, I had other related conditions, pelvic floor dysfunction.

Needless to say, my colon was so badly diseased, (completely with mucus) and I developed diversion colitis so that is what led me to the removal of my large intestines.

I'm fairly educated with digestive disease because of the 7 years of pain and suffering, although want to learn more about treatments that are working for others and for those awful days that I lie in bed wishing someone would understand how difficult it is to live a healthy life.

Hello! Do you feel better because of the permanent ostomy? Are you on any meds now? I had my large intestine taken out and currently have a temporary ileostomy (2nd one). The rectum is next to go if I dont respond to tysabri or stelara. Did your energy get better after the surgery? Im just a college student so its been hard to stay motivated in school feeling crummy.

Hi Debra and welcome to the community :) I'm glad you joined!

You mention IBS. Is that what you're diagnosed with or do you have some form of IBD such as Crohn's disease?

Like Jack, I wonder if you're currently on any meds and how you're doing?

All my best to you!
