Suggestions required for a healthy life..

Myself Is Bits from Siliguri, West Bengal . I had been diagnosed of Crohn’s disease of Small Intestine in 2009 at CMCH Vellore, India and done resection of my Small Intestine ( as the Video Capsule was stuck in the intestine at the time of Capsule Endoscopy test) and stricturoplasty of some areas in small intestine at the site of ileum. After surgery Dr. B.S. Ramakrishna Sir has prescribed me Pentasa 500 mg ( Mesalizine Prolonged release tablets) thrice daily for 1 year and said I will be OK and not need further medicine.

I am enjoying my life beautifully and eat everything and got no problem till 01.05.2013.

But after 4 years you can see that I have been feeling of discomfort in digestion, stomach pain, flatulence ,cramping, and the condition got so worst that I need to Hospitalized myself and been on Saline water for three days without having a drop of water through mouth. After three days Dr. here in Siliguri, west Bengal advise me to be on liquid diet only like juice , soup etc. and I got discharged after staying 9 days on Nursing Home here.

Dr. here said that my Crohn’s disease is might aggravate again and I might need to do surgery again and they suggested a full abdomen CT Scan here for finding the severeness of the strictures as per them that might formed again.

In the CT Scan report they only found that - Evidence of irregular thickened wall of proximal illeal loops - Consistent with Crohn's Disease.

Right now I am adviced by Dr.-

1) Pentasa 500mg - 2 tablets thrice daily

2) Buscopan - 1 tablet thrice before food .

3) Ricona ( a multivitamin tablet ) - once daily.

4) Cremaffin ( stool softener ) - 1 tablespoon at night

But when I take vitamins my stomach gets very fulled and fatigue. Sometimes without taking vitamins I also feel flatulence and cramps on my stomach.

I am having small amount of liquid diet ( rice & dal only ) two or three times and some fruit juices and soups.

Please advise me what should I do and are the above medicines are enough to cure this disease . Please give your suggestion I am in very much need of that.

My Hemoglobin was around 9.5 g/dl. I am also a patient of Beta-Thalessemia trait. I had also lose around 7 / 8 kgs in last 2 monts as I am not able to take proper food.

finally please suggest your advice on the above scenario that what should I do regarding the continuation of medicines. I am eat very normal diet this days in fear that if something rich food can make m conditions more worse.


Please suggest me . I am feeling very helpless here.

aside for Sid, Kolkata - Please suggest some good Doctors for Crohn's Disease treatment in India.

Hi Bittu and welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, the medication you are taking will not cure Crohn's disease as there is no cure at present. Hopefully they will put you into remission though where your disease is not active. I believe Sid who is a wonderful member of this forum might be someone you want to talk to. I've paged him here.

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and try tagging Vellanki here. I honestly don't know how active they are on the forum anymore but I can't think of any members off the top of my head that are from India.

Since the CT showed thickening that could be both scar tissue and inflammation. Have you been given any steroids at all like Prednisone or Entocort or any IV steroids while you were in the hospital? If steroids help to reduce your symptoms then it may mainly be inflammation and they may be able to help get you back into remission without surgery but I don't feel that Pentasa is enough. Can you talk to your doctor about adding another medication like 6MP, Imuran etc. I honestly don't know what medications are available in your country. Keep us posted.

thank u for your advise next time i will remind it.actually in india very few people suffering from crohns disease and bitts and me are from same state of india. so finding some one from same state i cant control my emotion that's why emotionally i written that post in our mother tong.:ysmile:

Bcz aami ekhon mainly liquid diet nichi. and aamar weight o khub lose kore geche. So advice koro kolkata te k best hobe dekhanor jonno. Aar tomar ekhon kar medicine gulo olpo liko along with diet chart fro day.
