Hi! So glad I found you guys.
I am seeing a Naturopath today and the reason why is because I want someone to look at me as a whole person - not just treat my Crohn's and because I'm fed up with trying the conventional meds with no long term results.
I was diagnosed in 1991 at 18 years old with Ileocolitis Crohn's. Since then, I've been on Prednisone most of my life - off and on. I've had 6 colonoscopies and 5 Gastroenterologists.
Meds I've tried: Purenithol/6-MP, resulting in severe pancreatitis (twice) with hospitalization, Azulfadine, Mesalamine, Bactrim (which I'm now allergic to for some reason), Flagyl, Cipro, Immodium, Tylenol, supplements and tons of Prednisone. Currently, I'm just treating symptoms with Immodium.
Last year, I saw a Gastro who ran many tests including one that I like to call the Crystal Ball test, which resulted in telling us that I will continue to have Crohn's problems. (No Kidding!) He wanted me to go on Humira and I was really scared off by the side effects, cost, possibility that it wouldn't help my symptoms at all and method of administration (shots), so I decided against it.
This week, my joints and body are really aching and I'm seeing blood and mucous, so off to the doctor I go. Usually, I see my primary care doc and then go on a 10-day course of Prednisone, which helps, but sometimes as soon as it's over, I flare again.
I'm on a low-carb diet because I'm about 40 lbs. overweight (partially due to Prednisone). Due to my current flare, I don't know what to eat.
Any suggestions and advice you can give me would be appreciated.
Thanks.
