Re crohn's

please forgive my ignorance regarding Crohn's disease which I have been told I have and have been suffering from for the past 2 years. I myself am not an ignorant man but when it comes to this disease I am affraid I have been. I have been on many different medications none of which worked. I was then told that I was to be put on Humira injections. I went to the hospital to start this treatment and I kept hearing from different medical persons that it is very important that I am protected from infection, even down to having to obtain the flu vaxcine. I then asked if they new that I had had a very serious infection around my heart only 8 months ago. They look at my file and sure enough this confiremed I was telling the truth. Then they said that they would hold off on the Humira. I was told to stay on the meds I have been on. I think that they are more interested in fixing Crohn's disease then they are about fixing me. FYI I believed a flare up was when the pain got so bad I would have to go to hospital. This was why I had to carry a change of clothes with me where ever I went. I have never before been on a forum and I am only new to the commputure as well.:confused2:

Welcome to the forum, 40oconnor!

I'm sorry to hear you've been unwell for so long. :(

Could you explain what you mean when you say, "I think that they are more interested in fixing Crohn's disease then they are about fixing me." Are you having other medical problems that you think the treatment would complicate?

You can read about Humira and others' experiences on it in the Humira section of the Treatment forum, found here. Yes, your immune system is somewhat compromised while on Humira, but for many, it doesn't seem to be a major problem. In most cases, Crohn's symptoms treated by Humira are more of an issue.

 I hope things get better for you soon!

If you're not used to using computers, I imagine it would be hard to find much information about Crohn's. One thing that perhaps would help you would be finding a really good doctor. Not necessarily a Crohn's specialist. A good GP can be a great help in organising your treatment with a chronic disease like Crohn's. They can contact consultants, explain your test results to you, and help you understand your medications. A good consultant is also necessary, but GPs are usually easier to contact than consultants as there are no waiting lists.

A lot of people have the feeling that their doctors only focus on their disease and not on the way their disease impacts on their life. Keep reading this forum. You'll find a lot of information about how people with Crohn's manage their symptoms and how to cope with this disease.
