Crohns,colitis or ibs?

Hi im new to this forum and needed some advice.i remember as a young child needing to run to the loo every now and again.then as i hit my 20s i became very poorly i was on the loo about 9 times a day, eating was a nightmare as nothing stayed in i went down to 6 stone and was anaemic, dehydrated and low in all my vits and minerals.i wnt to the docs and they said it was ibs and gave me loperamide on repeat perscription whic ive taken now for about 12 years.im still anaemic and still in pain with my bowel ive been waking up recently in the night in pain then running to the loo.ive had colonoscopy which they couldnt finish as i was in too much pain and had gastroscopy and am not coeliac.just not sure what it could be.my anaemia wont go and ive tried eating fruit and veg but makes me ill and in pain.i have so much wind and na
usea all the time.

So sorry to hear of all your troubles.

A colonoscopy and gastrocopy won't rule out CD because they only peek into either end of a very, very long small bowel.

Further tests would be needed on the small bowel and with your symptoms i'd say they are more than warranted. CD can occur from mouth to Anus so there is alot that the scopes can't visualise.

Persistent anaemia and night time toilet trips are signs it is way more than IBS.

Have you been referred to a Gastro Dr? When were your last scopes?

IBS dx should only be given (ideally by a specialist) when tests have come back normal and there are no "red flag" symptoms. Weight loss, anaemia, nocturnal D, other vitamin deficiencies are such red flag symptoms.

It's not an easy process to get a dx. It can take years unfortunately. I have seen five GI drs over 20 years and they all have told me something different

Thanx for all your replies.sorry to hear you are all going through the same thing.i had my scopes done in 2013 but couldnt finish it due to pain where the dr at the hospital said to me it was ibs as people with ibs find it too painful so it must b that.ive managed to put weight on as i had my son in 2011 and after that i what i would say went into remission.i eat all the right foods to control anaemia but still have it then i end up upsetting my belly as veg and fruit dont sit well with me.also after i had scopes ive now developed ptoblems with my throat.just fed up now..

That's a pretty outrageous thing to say and I'd be looking for a different Gastro if I were you.

Were you sedated?
I wasn't sedated for my first colonoscopy but that was over 20 years ago and nowadays sedation is the norm as far as I'm aware. I feel (or remember is more likely) no pain under sedation.

As Stargirrl says night time loo visits and persistent anaemia deserve a further look.

Good luck!

Dear vintage poppet

You cannot be such an old vintage, this misery needs to stop so that you can enjoy life. You will need alot of energy just to keep up with a 3/4 year old.

I agree, it's worth finding a new doctor who will take you seriously and do the necessary tests. How is your GP? Can they recommend someone?

It might not be your style but sometimes you have to kick up a fuss and be dramatic to get the right wheels in motion. This has gone on long enough.

Have you got someone on your side who can accompany you on your quest? Well, the forum is there for you in any case.

:ghug:
