Anti - OmpC IgA (Anti - Outer Membrane Protein C)

The Anti - OmpC IgA Elisa test is part of the Prometheus IBD sgi Diagnostic used to help diagnose Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), and differentiate between Crohn's Disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC).

The Prometheus IBD sgi Diagnostic test looks for IgA - type Antibodies specific for the OmpC Antigen. OmpC is the Outer Membrane Protein C in E. coli bacteria.

The value of the Anti - OmpC IgA test in IBD is controversial.

- Some laboratories suggest it can identify Crohn's Disease in patients that are negative for the Crohn's Disease marker ASCA.

- In contrast, Anti - OmpC positive results with a positive pANCA (and DNAse Sensitive) indicates an Ulcerative Colitis diagnosis.

- Anti - OmpC IgA tests have a high rate of false positives.

- Anti - OmpC IgA tests are not highly sensitive for IBD testing.
