NSAID Induced Colitis

Use of Non Steroid Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) can lead to a form of Colitis called NSAID Induced Colitis. In addition, they can make existing forms of colitis including Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis symptoms worse and should be avoided. A biopsy result on NSAID induced colitis will often return a finding of "non-specific colitis". [1]

Symptoms

Iron Deficiency Anemia
Weight loss
Abdominal Pain
Diarrhea
Bloody diarrhea [1]

Treatment

Stop use of the NSAID
Sulphasalazine and Flagyl (Metronidazole)
Surgery in life threatening situations
